Specifying Server Instance Options


You can add and delete server mappings to specify which hosts can be used with an instance of Information Server.

Specifying Host Mappings

To add a host mapping, do the following:

1. On the Welcome page, click the Host Manager Button.

2. Click the button for the server you want to modify.

3. Click the Host Mappings icon or hyperlink. Information Server displays the following page.

4. In the New Host field, enter the mapping you want to specify for the current server. All HTTP requests received through this mapping will use this server. The following are the valid mapping values:

ipaddress:port
Specifies a specific IP address and port. Example 192.187.143.5:80
*:*
Specifies any host and any port is allowed.
*:port
Specifies any host on port 80 is allowed. Example *:80
ipaddress:*
Specifies any port on a specified IP address is allowed Example 192.187.143.5:*

5. Click the Add button.

6. Continue with this process for each server mapping you want to add.

7. When you have added all the hosts, click Done.

Removing Host Mapping

To remove a server mapping, do the following:

1. Select the mapping you want to remove.

2. Click remove.

Admin Server Settings

The persistent search server process manages search tasks in Information Server under the following circumstances:

If your environment does not meet one of these criteria, you will not see the Search Server option.

To change admin server settings, do the following:

1. On the Welcome page, click the Host Manager Button.

2. Click the button for the server instance you want to change.

3. Click the Admin Server Control icon or hyperlink. Information Server displays the following page:

4. To change the port for the admin server enter the port number in the Admin Server Port field and press Apply.

5. To stop the admin server press the Stop Admin button. The admin server automatically restarts when it is needed.

Search Server

The persistent search server process manages search tasks in Information Server under the following circumstances:

To change search server settings, do the following:

1. On the Welcome page, click the Host Manager Button.

2. Click the button for the server instance you want to change.

3. Click the Search Server Control icon or hyperlink. Information Server displays the following page:

5. To stop the search server press the Stop Search Server button. The search server automatically restarts when it is needed.

Deleting a Server Instance

To delete a server instance, do the following:

1. On the Welcome page, click the Host Manager Button.

2. Click the button for the server instance you want to delete.

3. Click the Delete icon or hyperlink. Information Server displays the following page:

4. To delete the server instance, click Yes.

Administering a Server

To administer your server after specifying server options, do the following:

1. On the Welcome page, click the Host Manager Button.

2. Click the button for the server you want to administer.

3. Click the Administer icon or hyperlink.

Information Server displays the main administration menu and, if you are using frames, the Quick Start page.
