Importing an Existing Collection
Import Collection allows you to import an existing collection that you may have created with another Verity product for use with Information Server.
NOTE: SEARCH'97 Information Server can manage only 128 collections at a time.
To import a collection, do the following:
- 1. Click the Collection Manager button on the menu bar.
- 2. Click the Import Collection icon or hyperlink on the Collection Manager menu. Information Server displays the following page.
-
- 3. Enter the following information:
- Path - Enter the full path of the directory for the collection to be imported. This directory is relative to the computer that hosts Information Server. To import a single collection, you specify a path name to a collection directory. To import a meta collection (a group of collections named in a collection map file), you specify a path name to a collection map file.
- Name - The name you want to use for the collection. Be sure to specify a name that is not already in use. Information Server lists the names of the collections currently in the collection list.
Note that you cannot import the same collection twice, even if you give it a different name. Information server prevents you from doing this because importing the same collection twice can cause data corruption.
- Description - A brief description of the collection's contents.
- Document Root - Optional. Enter the path to the directory in which the collection documents reside. This path is used to resolve requests for documents if the collection contains relative file paths and was not created with a web indexer.
For some imported file-based collections, you may need to create an HTTP alias with the appropriate administration tool of your HTTP server. For example, you might map the directory /docs/finance/reports to the URL alias /finreports. You would enter /docs/finance/reports here in the Document Root field, with a corresponding entry of /finreports in the URL Root field.
- URL Root - Optional. Enter the URL alias, created in your HTTP server, to the collection documents. This path is used in conjunction with the Document Root field. For example, if you map the directory
/docs/finance/reports to the URL alias /finreports, and enter /docs/finance/reports in the Document Root field, you would enter /finreports here in the URL Root field.
When you have entered the information for the collection to be imported, click the Import button. Information Server adds the collection to the Collection List.
