Setting the System Resource Allocation

The Performance Tuning option allows you to specify how much of your server's resources are allocated to search engine resources. To change system resource allocation, do the following:

1. Click Server Setup on the menu bar.

2. Click Performance Tuning on the Server Setup menu. Information Server displays the following page.

3. Specify the amount of usage you anticipate Information Server to receive:

Locally only - For expected light usage of Information Server.

To a single department - For expected moderate usage of Information Server.

To the entire enterprise - For expected heavy usage of Information Server.

4. Click Apply.

If you desire a finer level of control over the level of resources given to the search engine, use the Advanced Settings described below.

Advanced Settings

The Advanced Settings override the Performance Tuning setting. The value you enter will be the maximum number of concurrent sessions allowed at any given time. There is always at least one search session opened when a search request is submitted. Subsequent search sessions are opened, up to the maximum value you specify, when that search session is determined by Information Server to be busy and other search requests are waiting to be serviced. Each search session is an instance of the search engine, with a cache of indexes and available collections opened. The higher the number of concurrent sessions allowed, the more resources you will need to sustain them.

To change the maximum number of concurrent search sessions, do the following:

1. Click Server Setup on the menu bar.

2. Click Performance Tuning on the Server Setup menu.

3. Click Advanced Settings on the Performance Tuning page. Information Server displays the following page:

4. Enter a value for the maximum number of search sessions.

5. Click Apply.
